Cowboy Breakfast

To kick off the rodeo season, a free Cowboy Breakfast is held on the last Friday of January in San Antonio. The rodeo in San Antonio is always a big deal here. We usually have over 1 million who attend our rodeo so we like to start our rodeo season in a big way.

So we feed you for free! Come on out and get a delicious hot breakfast on us. Did I mention that this event is FREE? That is right. You get a free breakfast. For 2009, the breakfast was held on Friday, January 30 from 4:30am to 8:30am at the Lowe’s parking lot on 18303 Rim Drive. The good thing about this location is that there is plenty of parking to accommodate everyone who is hungry.

This annual breakfast benefits the Cowboy Breakfast Foundation. The foundation provides scholarships from the money charged to vendors and entertainment stage rentals. This year, they hope to raise $20,000 in scholarship funds for the culinary program at St.Philip’s College here in San Antonio.

They anticipate that about 40,000 people will stop by and get hot coffee, juice, breakfast tacos, biscuits and gravy, bagels and cream cheese, and tamales. Yum! Nobody knows how to feed a crowd as San Antonio does.

The foundation always seems to try to break a record at these breakfasts and this year is no different. The goal this year is to surpass the record of 1,900 cups of coffee served at an event. Back in 2001, the foundation set the record for the world’s largest cooked breakfast by serving 18,941 people in one hour. Can you imagine that?

So get up early and come and be a part of a new world record. Don your western hat and boots along with your jeans and come hungry. Amazingly, the lines move quickly and easily and you will have a good time.
